French wildfires may take weeks or months to extinguish

Lt Col David Annotel, a senior firefighter in France, warned on RTL Radio that the wildfire in Gironde could take 'several weeks or months' to fully extinguish. He said reinforcements from across the country are likely needed.

Weather conditions offer short window

Annotel stated that the next two to three days provide a chance to 'take advantage' of current weather conditions before an expected heatwave complicates firefighting efforts. He noted that a similar fire in Landiras in 2022 took months to extinguish, despite being much smaller.
