Around 60 firefighters are currently battling a significant grass fire near South End Road in Hornchurch, Havering, East London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has dispatched eight fire engines to the scene, where approximately six hectares of grassland are ablaze.
Firefighting Resources Deployed
In addition to the fire engines, one of the Brigade's Terrain Support Vehicles has been mobilized to assist operations. This off-road vehicle enables firefighters to transport additional equipment closer to fires on open ground. It carries around 475 litres of water, along with a backpack blower, ear defenders, beaters, and misting lance technology, allowing crews to tackle grass fires more quickly and safely.
Emergency Response Timeline
The Brigade's Control Officers received the first of seven calls reporting the fire at 1:18 pm. Crews were quickly mobilized from Dagenham, Hornchurch, Wennington, and surrounding fire stations to respond to the incident.
Cause Under Investigation
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigations are ongoing. Firefighters remain at the scene working to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.
