Leslie Odom Jr Joins London Hamilton Cast as Aaron Burr

Leslie Odom Jr to Bring Aaron Burr to London's Hamilton Stage

Leslie Odom Jr, the acclaimed actor who originated the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway phenomenon Hamilton, is set to make his highly anticipated West End debut. The Tony Award-winning performer will join the London production at the Victoria Palace theatre for a limited nine-week engagement this summer, marking a significant return to the character that catapulted him to stardom.

Award-Winning Performance Returns

Odom earned widespread critical acclaim and a 2016 Tony Award for his portrayal of Burr, which he developed alongside creator Lin-Manuel Miranda during the musical's workshop and off-Broadway phases. His performance is immortalized on the Grammy-winning original cast recording and in the Disney+ film adaptation, recorded at New York's Richard Rodgers Theatre. The actor previously played Burr for a full year in the original Broadway production and returned for a twelve-week stint in 2025.

The Complex Antagonist

In Hamilton, Aaron Burr serves as the primary antagonist—a lawyer and politician whose escalating rivalry with Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, culminates in tragic consequences. Burr delivers the musical's opening lines, famously introducing himself with the declaration: "And me? I'm the damn fool that shot him." The character leads several standout numbers including Wait for It and The Room Where It Happens, and shares the poignant duet Dear Theodosia with Hamilton.

Artist's Perspective on Returning

Odom expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity to revisit the role with renewed perspective. "Returning to Hamilton and revisiting the role of Aaron Burr with the growth and perspective of time has been a profoundly healing artistic experience," he stated. "I am thankful to producers Cameron Mackintosh and Jeffrey Seller for the invitation to make my West End debut with this fabulous company."

Producer Enthusiasm

Cameron Mackintosh recalled being "knocked out by Leslie Odom Jr's electric performance" when he first saw the production over a decade ago during its New York tryout. "I'm absolutely thrilled that London will now be able to share the experience," Mackintosh added, highlighting the significance of Odom's London debut.

Hamilton's London Legacy

The West End production of Hamilton opened in 2017 to tremendous success, earning seven Olivier Awards including Best Actor in a Musical for Giles Terera's portrayal of Aaron Burr. Odom's upcoming engagement represents a special convergence of Broadway and West End excellence, bringing one of the musical's most iconic original performers to London audiences for the first time.
