Noel Gallagher has thrown Oasis's hat into the ring for one of music's most coveted gigs: performing the theme for the next James Bond film. The legendary guitarist and songwriter declared it would be an "absolute honour" for the recently reunited Britpop icons to take on the 007 mantle.
Gallagher's Bond Ambition and British Stance
Speaking to Talksport, the 58-year-old musician addressed swirling rumours that Oasis had been approached for the project. While he confirmed that film bosses have not yet made contact, he left no doubt about the band's interest. "This James Bond thing? What, Oasis? Nah," he said, before adding, "[We would] absolutely" be up for recording it.
Gallagher, a self-confessed Bond fan who has previously written potential theme tunes, also took a pointed stance on the franchise's musical direction. "I think those kinds of things should be done by Brits, not Yanks," he stated, referencing his past criticism of American artist Jack White's theme for 'Quantum of Solace'.
A Modern Trend of American Bond Themes
His comment highlights a notable shift in the series. While classic themes were often performed by British greats like Shirley Bassey and Paul McCartney, recent years have seen a transatlantic dominance.
Adele's 'Skyfall' in 2012 broke a long drought for UK artists, becoming the first British-performed theme since Duran Duran in 1985. She was followed by fellow Brit Sam Smith for 'Spectre', but the last film, 'No Time To Die', featured American superstar Billie Eilish.
The search for the next theme comes during a period of significant change for the franchise. For the first time in decades, full creative control has shifted following the exit of longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Acclaimed Canadian director Denis Villeneuve is set to helm the next film, with production expected to begin next year.
Oasis's Perfect Fit and Gallagher's Villainous Dream
The idea of Oasis providing the anthem has clear supporters. A source previously told The Sun that "Liam’s swagger and Noel’s anthemic music would be perfect to soundtrack the new film." They argued that the 007 films are a great British institution deserving of one of the nation's greatest ever bands.
Gallagher himself has already crafted songs he believes could work, admitting one recent composition made him think, "that’d make a great Bond theme." He even joked about appearing on screen, suggesting, "I’ll play a villain. I’ll play a Mancunian villain."
As speculation continues over who will be the next actor to play 007, with names like Callum Turner and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the frame, the question of who will provide the iconic soundtrack remains equally open. For many fans, the prospect of a monumental Oasis comeback single for Bond represents the ultimate British cultural crossover.
