Channel 4 has premiered Vengeance: Murder on the Heath, a two-part factual drama that delves into the notorious 'honeytrap murder' that shocked Britain. The series, which aired over the weekend, is based on the true story of 21-year-old Gagandip Singh, who was killed by his friend Harinder 'Ravi' Shoker in 2011.
Gagandip Singh, a TV executive, was beaten unconscious and left to die in a burning car on Blackheath. The murder began when Mundill Mahil falsely claimed that Gagandip had attempted to assault her. She confided in Harinder Shoker, and together they devised a plan to lure Gagandip to a student house where he would be confronted.
According to Channel 4, after a vicious beating left him unconscious, Gagandip was placed in the boot of his sister's Mercedes, which was then driven to Blackheath and set on fire. The drama draws from real police interviews, text messages, and court documents to explore the dynamics within the young British Sikh community.
Writer and Director Aysha Rafaele said: "It's a haunting crime that continues to cast a long shadow and I am proud to have been able to work with such a talented young cast of up and coming British Asian actors to bring this devastating story to C4."
During the trial, Mundill Mahil was described as "manipulative, vengeful and deceitful." Harinder Shoker received a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years and remains in prison today. The production aims to shed light on the tragic events and their lasting impact on the families and communities involved.
