The Guardian’s picture editors have selected a series of striking photographs from around the world for Tuesday, capturing moments from a farming protest in Romania to the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles and a rocket launch in Inner Mongolia.
Protests and unrest across Europe
In Bucharest, Romania, a shepherd stood in front of a row of riot police during a farming protest, in an image captured by Andreea Alexandru for the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the Romanian capital, riot police sprayed teargas after scuffles with demonstrators during a protest against EU farming policies, as photographed by Vadim Ghirdă for the Associated Press.
In Fos-sur-Mer, France, riot police stood by a pallet fire after removing several dozen fishers blocking an oil depot in the port. The fishers were protesting against rising fuel prices and deteriorating working conditions, according to a photograph by Clement Mahoudeau for AFP/Getty Images.
