Lego has unveiled a fully functional pinball machine featuring a retro Space theme, demonstrating the limitless possibilities of its building bricks. Before video games dominated arcades, pinball machines were the ultimate attraction, and Lego has recreated that experience without any electronic components.
Mechanical Marvel
The new set, named the Arcade Pinball Machine (set #11374), consists of 2,274 individual pieces and draws inspiration from the classic Lego Space theme of the 1970s and 1980s. It includes a spring-powered launcher, two flippers, spinning bumpers, and a ramp bridge, all operating purely through mechanical engineering. A progress bar, manually resettable, tracks your performance as you aim to hit asteroid targets to rescue a baby astronaut.
Design and Story
The set tells a narrative of reuniting a baby astronaut with its parent, both featuring a new light blue color for minifigures. Aimed at adult fans, the design mimics an old-school pinball table. Once assembled, the model measures 38 cm long, 28 cm wide, and 24 cm tall.
Pricing and Availability
Given its size, the set is priced at £189.99. It will be available from July 4 at Lego stores and online. Lego Insiders, who can sign up for free, can purchase it starting July 1.
Comparisons to Previous Sets
This working design follows earlier Lego arcade sets, such as the Pac-Man model with moving characters and a light-up coin slot. Lego has also teased a Donkey Kong set based on the 1981 arcade game, possibly combining elements of the pinball and Pac-Man models. Additionally, a Minifigure Vending Machine recreates a gachapon machine but is another expensive adult set.
Cheaper Alternatives
For those on a budget, Lego offers a £34.99 generic Arcade Machine with a detailed interior, and a Creator 3-in-1 set for £17.99 that can build a portable console, gaming PC, or arcade cabinet. Other affordable adult-oriented sets include a Game Boy recreation for £54.99 and a mini Sega Mega Drive for £34.99.
