A man in his 20s was taken to hospital following reports of gunshots in Streatham, South London. Emergency services were called to a block of flats off Leigham Court Road, in Norwood, at 3.05pm on September 14. The victim was found outside Hawthorn Court, where paramedics treated him for non-life-threatening injuries. The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation, but no arrest has been made in connection with the incident.
Police cordon and forensic investigation
A forensics team was pictured gathering evidence from the surrounding streets as investigators work to identify a suspect. Officers in protective clothing could be seen placing yellow markers behind a large cordon late into the night. Medical debris and discarded clothing lay on the pavement where the victim was located, according to MyLondon.
Police sealed off the area outside the block of flats following the reported shooting. Residents living close to the crime scene have been told to expect an increased police presence in the coming days.
Appeal for witnesses
"Anyone in the area with concerns or information is encouraged to speak to an officer," the force said in a statement. Witnesses are asked to come forward with any relevant information as soon as possible.
