Kylie Minogue Crowned 2025 Christmas Number One, Makes Chart History
Kylie Minogue secures 2025 UK Christmas number one

Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue has clinched the coveted Christmas number one spot in the UK for the first time in her career with her festive track, 'Xmas'. The 57-year-old star's achievement also marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first female artist to secure number one singles across four separate decades.

A Historic Chart-Topping Achievement

According to data released by The Official Charts Company on Friday 19 December 2025, Minogue's success ends the two-year reign of Wham!'s 'Last Christmas'. Her victory makes her the first solo female artist in 12 years to claim the Christmas top spot, following Sam Bailey's win in 2013. The singer expressed profound gratitude, stating it was "hard to put into words" how special the moment felt.

"Being Christmas number one really is the most wonderful gift," Minogue said. "I'm so thankful to everyone who's been listening and sharing the love and I'm wishing you all a very Merry Christmas." Her song, stylised and pronounced as 'X-M-A-S', is accompanied by a joyful music video featuring a dance routine taught to a group of children and adults, with a special cameo from Abba's Bjorn Ulvaeus.

The Festive Top Five Revealed

The final festive chart rankings saw a classic lineup. Wham!'s 'Last Christmas' settled at number two, while Mariah Carey's perennial favourite 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' took third place. Brenda Lee's 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' secured the fourth position. Completing the top five was the week's highest new entry, the charity single 'Lullaby' by Together For Palestine.

Kylie's Reign and the Queen of Christmas Title

This festive triumph adds an eighth number one to Kylie Minogue's impressive UK chart record. Her previous chart-toppers include classics like 'I Should Be So Lucky' (1988), 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' (2001), and 'Slow' (2003). Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company, suggested this win positions Minogue as a potential challenger to Mariah Carey's status as the "queen of Christmas".

"Congratulations to Kylie - what an amazing achievement by our adopted national treasure," Talbot remarked. The last Australian artist to achieve a Christmas number one was actress Nicole Kidman, who collaborated with Robbie Williams on 'Somethin' Stupid' back in 2001.

With this landmark victory, Kylie Minogue has not only delivered a festive anthem but has also cemented her legendary status in the annals of British pop music history.
