A series of suspicious fires at the Sugden farm has Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) fearing that his ex, Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill), is responsible and returning to Emmerdale. However, the true culprit may be someone else entirely.
Kev, introduced last year as Robert's prison husband, left a lasting impression with his possessive and desperate behavior. After being released, he lied about his health and held Robert hostage upon discovering his relationship with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). Kev eventually left the village heartbroken but returned when John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) captured him as part of a revenge plot. Despite his criminal tendencies, Kev showed a glimmer of goodness by warning Aaron of John's plans.
Now, as fires break out on the farm, Robert and Aaron begin investigating. After putting out a second fire, they speculate on who might be starting them. Meanwhile, Sam Dingle (James Hooton), after facing Lydia's wrath for missing a dance class, meets with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) at a barn. They discuss a plan, and Ross gives Sam a lighter to create a cover story. As Aaron and Robert approach, Sam flees, increasing suspicion that Ross is the arsonist.
Ross denies the accusations, claiming he was looking for the culprit, and offers to investigate for a fee. Robert agrees to triple Ross's pay to find the arsonist, but Aaron wonders if Ross is framing someone else. Aaron adopts a "trust no one" approach, turning his attention to Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah), a seemingly charming but mysterious resident introduced last year. Kammy, known for his chaotic but kind nature, arrives late to work at the garage with his shirt on backward, raising Aaron's suspicions.
As the week progresses, Aaron and Robert vow to find the arsonist, unaware that Kammy is listening in, looking alarmed. With Ross and Kev under scrutiny, could Kammy be hiding in plain sight? Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw confirmed Kev's return, stating: "Both Chris and the character of Kev made a massive impact on the show last year, so Chris is most definitely back by popular demand. With Kev's son, Lewis, in the village still unaware of who his father is, there's a lot of unfinished business and drama ahead." Chris Coghill added: "I'm really pleased to be returning. Kev is a complex character with psychopathic tendencies but also an energy and vulnerability that makes him unique."
