Busted star James Bourne, 42, has issued a crucial health update after months of radio silence that left fans deeply concerned for his well-being. The musician, known for hits like "Year 3000," revealed he must undergo major surgery that he believes will extend his life and potentially allow him to return to touring and making music.
Health Crisis Forces Tour Cancellation
Last year, Bourne devastated fans when he was forced to withdraw from Busted's joint tour with McFly just one day before it was scheduled to begin. At that time, he admitted he didn't have all the answers about his medical condition, leaving supporters worried about his long-term health prospects.
Social Media Revelation
In a heartfelt Instagram Story posted recently, Bourne explained his prolonged absence from public view. "I realized it's been about six months since I posted last," he wrote. "I have a plan in place to have a major surgery that should extend my life and hopefully make me well enough to come back to what I love the most, which is touring and making music."
The musician expressed frustration at being sidelined from his career, stating, "It really sucks to be out of the game. But there is hope!" He did not provide specific details about his medical condition or the nature of the planned surgical procedure.
Previous Health Announcement
In September, Bourne had announced his tour withdrawal with a similarly emotional message. "The VS tour kicks off tomorrow night in Birmingham and as excited as I've been all year for this tour to begin, I'm really sorry to say that over the last eight days it has become clear that I am not in good enough health to play these shows," he explained.
He acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his condition at that time, writing, "There's a lot of information I still don't have about my condition but my bandmates, management and I are unanimous in deciding that I should focus on the medical stuff for now." Bourne expressed hope that he might eventually return to performing, adding, "I really hope I can be in a position to come back further down the line."
Band Support and Fan Concern
Bourne's bandmates have been vocal about his absence during the tour. Matt Willis told audiences, "OK, you may have noticed our best friend is not here tonight. James Bourne is really f***ing sick, and we love him, and we miss him. This is the first show we've ever played without him and it's really weird."
Willis emphasized the sudden nature of the health crisis, stating everything had happened "f***ing fast" and reminding fans that "health is wealth." Meanwhile, fans have continued expressing concern on social media, with one comment reading, "Anyone else come and check in on James because I'm constantly worried about a man I don't even know."
Musical Legacy and Current Situation
Busted formed in 2000 and achieved massive success with their 2002 self-titled debut album, which included the hit single "What I Go to School For." The band went on to sell five million albums and win two Brit Awards before initially disbanding in 2005.
After various solo projects and reunions, including the McBusted supergroup from 2013 to 2015, the band reformed for their 20th anniversary and continues performing together. During Bourne's current health-related absence, his younger brother Chris has been filling in on guitar duties for live performances.
The music community has rallied around Bourne, with fellow artists including Olly Murs, Wheatus, and McFly's Harry Judd sending messages of support and wishing him a speedy recovery. As Bourne prepares for his upcoming surgery, fans worldwide await further updates on his health journey and potential return to the stage.
