ITV launches free 24/7 Walking Dead channel on ITVX
ITV launches free Walking Dead channel on ITVX

ITV has launched a new free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel dedicated entirely to The Walking Dead franchise, now available on ITVX. The 24/7 channel offers a live, continuous stream of the long-running zombie apocalypse series and its spin-off Fear the Walking Dead, starring Colman Domingo, without requiring a subscription.

Partnership with AMC Global Media

The channel follows a partnership deal announced last month between ITV and AMC Global Media, granting ITV broadcast rights to what it describes as 'one of television's most iconic franchises'. The FAST channel went live on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, providing fans with round-the-clock access to the original show and its Los Angeles-set spin-off.

Expanding Free-to-View Channel Library

ITVX plans to expand its library of dedicated free-to-view channels with other ITV fan favourites, including The Only Way Is Essex, Midsomer Murders, and The Chase. This move aims to attract viewers who prefer different genres beyond The Walking Dead.

Why Binge The Walking Dead

Metro's TV Editor Sabrina Barr highlighted the show's appeal: 'The Walking Dead had one of the best starts to a show ever and made me look at Love Actually's Mark in a new light.' She noted that the strong ensemble cast, reminiscent of Lost, turned the series into a phenomenon. Despite 11 seasons and several spin-offs sometimes feeling like a slog, Barr described it as 'a mammoth of a TV show that will have you gripped from the start.'

Sky's £1.6 Billion Takeover of ITV

The launch comes after Sky announced this week it plans to buy ITV for £1.6 billion, pending regulatory approval. The deal, one of the biggest media takeovers in British history, would see Sky acquire ITV's TV and streaming channels. Sky hopes to use ITVX to build a UK streaming titan to rival Netflix and Disney Plus.

Free-to-Air Commitment Until 2034

ITV is legally required to provide a free-to-air service until at least 2034, ensuring The Walking Dead channel remains free. After that, content could move behind a paywall, but Sky's owner Comcast is unlikely to scrap ITV's existing strengths. The big shows on ITVX—Coronation Street, Love Island, Emmerdale, I'm a Celebrity—will continue to be available for free.
