A new Hello Kitty-themed hotel in Tokyo allows guests to check in but not stay overnight. The Sanrio Characters Exhibition Hotel Floria Tokyo, located in the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower in Shinjuku, offers a simulated check-in experience where visitors are randomly assigned a character-designed 'Luc-key' entry pass. They then explore 11 rooms featuring various Sanrio characters, including Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Pompompurin, and Cinnamoroll.
Immersive Exhibition Concept
The brainchild of South Korean digital design firm D'strict, Hotel Floria Tokyo is an immersive journey through an imaginary hotel's fairytale-like rooms. The exhibition also includes a garden, pond, art gallery, indoor beach, and a dedicated 'Photo Zone'. A Hotel Floria spokesperson described it as an 'immersive experience that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.'
The exhibition opened on July 15, 2026, and will run until May 31, 2027. After a successful run in South Korea, the concept has come to Tokyo. Special merchandise is available, including limited edition luggage tags, pin badges, hand fans, perfume tags, and posters.
Pricing and Booking
General admission for adults is priced from ¥2,400 (£10.98). Tickets for secondary and middle-school students cost ¥1,600 (£7.32), while children between four and 12 pay ¥1,000 (£4.58). Tickets can be reserved online, and advance booking is recommended due to popularity.
Love Hotels in Japan
This concept is not entirely new in Japan. Love hotels, which are often decorated in quirky themes like whales or castles, are also not intended for overnight stays. Used by 500 million people each year, they provide privacy for couples. The name originates from the 'Hotel Love' in Osaka, created to give lovers a space away from family in a culture where multigenerational living is common.
