Wildlife presenter Hamza Yassin returns to BBC One at 7pm with a new series, Hamza: African Birds of Prey, filmed in Kenya. The show focuses on incredible but endangered species, including the martial eagle, which Yassin describes with childlike enthusiasm: “I’m like a kid who’s just been shown their Christmas present!” The presenter is visibly awed by the eagle’s huge yellow eyes, terrifying talons, and thighs of steel. He also makes a case for why viewers should love vultures more, a task he reportedly pulls off with charm.
Modern Classics at the Proms and Vigil's return
At 8pm on BBC Four, Modern Classics at the Proms offers a curated collection of new music from this year’s festival, selected by Guardian columnist Tom Service. The programme includes three world premieres, a captivating bassoon concerto, and interviews with emerging talents as well as established composers Thomas Adès and Gabriela Ortiz.
Over on BBC One at 9pm, the twisty cop drama Vigil returns with Suranne Jones as DCI Amy Silva. Now living with DI Kirsten Longacre, played by Rose Leslie, the pair face a new challenge when Longacre is selected to investigate a diplomatically sensitive murder in the Arctic. As events escalate, Silva may be forced to abandon her supervisory role and get involved directly.
Trigger Point and The Terror: Devil in Silver
ITV1 at 9pm airs the fourth series of Trigger Point, starring Vicky McClure as explosives officer Lana “Wash” Washington. The character’s fraught therapy sessions suggest her high-stress job is taking a toll, but when a C4-laden truck heads toward central London, she dives into danger without hesitation.
Sky Atlantic at 9pm presents The Terror: Devil in Silver, a horror drama where the dysfunction of a mental institution is matched by the genuine distress of its inmates. The paranoia of characters Pepper and Coffee leads to increasingly outlandish theories, giving the fiendish Dr Walter, played by Dan Stevens, another opportunity to intervene.
Love Cheats and live sport
Channel 4 at 10.15pm continues Love Cheats, a documentary series about romantic fraud and manipulation. The second series explores the case of Australian EDM DJ Olivia Nervo and businessman Matthew Pringle, which reached the Houses of Parliament as a possible example of reproductive coercion.
For sports fans, Premier League football sees Chelsea take on Brighton at 1pm on Sky Sports Main Event, followed by Man United v Ipswich at 4.30pm. The US Open tennis begins at 11pm with day one from Flushing Meadows.
