The annual winter festival Illuminate Adelaide is currently showcasing a dazzling array of light, art, music and technology installations on Kaurna Country, running until 19 July. The festival features works by Australian and international artists, with many pieces hosted at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and Rymill Park Lake.
Robotic swans and interactive installations
Among the standout works is CYGNUS by Loomaland, featuring life-sized robotic swans floating on Rymill Park Lake. Children are also drawn to Whispering Mountains by ENESS, an interactive installation that invites playful engagement. At the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, fruit bats fly over projections on trees in Monuments by Australian artist Craig Walsh.
Roving performances and immersive experiences
Roving performers dance with the crowd in Mirror Me by Fresh Creative Entertainment, while Dutch artists Close-Act Theatre present their roving performance Birdmen. Rarrirarri is an immersive experience by the Mulka Project, a collective of multimedia artists, cinematographers, sound engineers, and post-production technicians based in Yirrkala, in north-east Arnhem Land.
Interactive audiovisual and light works
Embrace by Australian artist Beamhacker is an interactive audiovisual experience celebrating human connection. Piano Walk by Australian artist Amigo & Amigo features a giant keyboard that visitors can play. Pixel Waves by Miguel Chevalier is projected onto the floor and crowds at Adelaide's Bonython Hall. Canopy by Australian artist Robin Fox is hosted at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, along with Fracture by Australian artist Chris Petridis.
More highlights
Neon Dog Park by Volter International offers a playful light installation, and The Dream Herd by Amigo & Amigo hovers over visitors.
