First Lady Melania Trump has officially revealed the festive transformation of the White House for the 2025 holiday season, unveiling a theme titled 'Home Is Where The Heart Is'.
The grand display, which includes 51 Christmas trees and 25,000 feet of ribbon, marks a significant year as the official tree has been relocated. This change was necessary after the East Wing was demolished to make way for former President Donald Trump's new ballroom.
A Festive Tribute to Service and Patriotism
The centrepiece official Christmas tree now stands as a poignant homage to Gold Star families, who have lost a loved one in military service. Throughout the residence, decorations in red, white, and blue, featuring national symbols and eagles, nod to America's upcoming 250th anniversary.
'In every community, we are lifted by simple acts of kindness that reflect the enduring American spirit of generosity, patriotism, and gratitude,' a White House statement read. 'These moments remind us that the heart of America is strong.'
The extensive decor, personally overseen by the First Lady, utilises 2,000 strands of lights and 75 wreaths to create a dazzling winter spectacle.
Notable Features and Symbolic Displays
Among the most talked-about installations is a detailed LEGO portrait of Donald Trump, capturing his serious expression with a raised eyebrow, placed alongside a stoic George Washington figure.
In the Cross Hall, a hand-painted artwork depicts President Trump pumping his fist into the air following the assassination attempt on his life last year.
Another symbolic display is found in the Red Room, where Christmas decorations are adorned with 10,000 blue butterflies. This is meant to represent America's youth and aligns with Melania Trump's 'Fostering the Future' initiative for children in care. Herve Pierre, the First Lady's creative artist, explained the butterfly symbolises 'renewal, resilience, and new beginnings'.
The Gingerbread Centrepiece and Past Themes
The culinary highlight is the annual White House gingerbread house. This year's intricate model offers a first-ever glimpse into the Yellow Oval Room, complete with edible bookshelves, couches, and a fireplace. The creation used over 120 pounds of gingerbread and features tiny snow-covered trees and American flags.
This year's theme contrasts with Melania Trump's previous festive efforts. In 2018, her extensive use of red berries on trees drew comparisons to 'The Handmaid's Tale'. Her final decoration in 2020 carried the theme 'America the Beautiful'.
The First Lady's candid thoughts on the public scrutiny of her decor were revealed in a 2018 recording, where she expressed exasperation, asking: 'Who gives a f*** about Christmas stuff and decoration, but I need to do it right?'
