Time Out has named The Angel in Highgate as the number one breakfast spot in London, according to a review by food critic Ella Doyle. The gastropub, which relaunched in 2024 under new management, is run by the same team as the nearby Red Lion & Sun. Breakfast is served daily from 8am until 4pm, except Sundays when roasts begin at 11.45am.

Ella Doyle praised the menu's variety and quality, noting, 'It’s rare to find a breakfast in London that doesn’t secretly make you think “I could’ve made this at home”. But trust me, none of you are getting anywhere close to this kind of finesse on a hangover.' She highlighted signature dishes including a full English, avocado toast, a thick Croque Madame, a Thai sausage bap with lime mayo and crispy prawn chilli oil, and a kipper glistening with parsley butter.
The menu also features mushrooms on toasted sourdough and Greek yoghurt with blueberries, banana and granola. The pub itself has stood on the site for around 400 years, though vegan sausage baps were likely not on offer in 1687.
