Mielo to Open Second Restaurant at Former Cote Site in Hampstead
Mielo to Open Second Restaurant at Former Cote Site

A Mediterranean restaurant and cocktail bar is set to move into the empty Cote brasserie site in Hampstead, according to posters and social media posts. The new venture will be a second location for Mielo, a bar and eaterie currently operating in Paddington Street, Marylebone.

Mielo's Expansion to Hampstead High Street

Posters appeared on the windows of the High Street building last month teasing the message: "We're creating something special for Hampstead" along with large question marks. An Instagram post has since revealed the new venture will be Mielo's second site, serving a modern fusion of contemporary Italian, Spanish, and Mediterranean cuisine, inspired by regions like Sicily and San Sebastian.

The post showed a photograph of the restaurant's designer outside the Grade II listed building with the message: "So grateful to have Maral, the designer behind the first Mielo in Paddington, now working on our second project in Hampstead! 83-84 Hampstead High Street, London, NW3 1RE. Thank you for all the long hours, dedication and hard work you’ve put into bringing our vision to life. We’re so grateful to have you with us."

Excitement from Fans and Expected Opening

The news was greeted with excitement by fans of Mielo, with one posting: "I can’t wait to see it finished and have the most delicious food there." Another added: "Omg Mielo in Marylebone is my fave place." In response to a question about the opening date, they added: "We will announce the opening date soon." So far nothing has been announced, but a worker carrying out the refurbishment who spoke to the Ham&High predicted it would open by Christmas.

Hampstead diners can expect a menu that includes steaks, seafood, stuffed pasta and flame-cooked meats alongside house cocktails such as the "Good Girl" (gin and rose) and "La Luna" (basil and cucumber).

Site History and Current Status

French bistro chain Cote closed its doors in Hampstead High Street in August 2024 after trading for 14 years. The Georgian property has remained empty for two years. The two buildings at 82 and 83 Hampstead High Street are both listed by Historic England, described as an "early 18th century pair of terraced houses, now a shop and restaurant".

No 82 has also stood empty since 2024 when it was vacated by Thai restaurant Patara, but developer Chrifin Ltd is currently overhauling the building following a successful application last year to refurbish the ground floor restaurant and first and second floor apartments. There is no current planning application for 83-84 Hampstead High Street, which will be the site of Mielo.
