Marcus Wareing hails Rosina's risotto as better than his own

Marcus Wareing, the Michelin-starred chef and MasterChef: The Professionals judge, has publicly declared that the risotto at Rosina, a new Italian restaurant in Wandsworth, is better than his own. The chef shared his rare review with his 344,000 Instagram followers after dining at the restaurant with his wife earlier this month.

A Rare Public Endorsement

Known for holding multiple Michelin stars throughout his career, Wareing typically avoids restaurant reviews. In his Instagram video, he stated, “I don’t do many restaurant reviews ever, in fact I don't do them at all, but this particular dining experience I have to shout out.” He described the dinner as one he had in Wandsworth, on Trinity Road, an area he lived near for many years.

The chef highlighted the restaurant’s location and its chef, Adam Byatt, who opened Rosina on June 29 on Bellevue Road near Wandsworth Common. Byatt, a Michelin-starred chef, began his career in the kitchens of Claridge’s at age 16. The restaurant occupies the former Brinkley’s site, and Byatt’s menu is inspired by his “love I have for Italian cuisine.”

Specific Dishes Praised

Wareing praised several aspects of the meal, including “the wine, the salads, the service” and the “attention to detail.” He described having one of the “best” turbot dishes he’s ever had, cooked on the bone with “beautiful capers and beautifully cooked seasoned spinach,” priced at £38. He also called the Tiramisu, costing £7, “exceptional.”

The highlight, however, was the risotto his wife ordered, priced at £20. Wareing said, “I've been making risotto at home for many, many, many years and I'd say that mine has always been the very best but I've just tasted a risotto that I would say is actually better than mine and I don't say that very lightly.”

Public Reception and Reviews

Rosina has received a 4.8 out of 5 star rating on Google. One reviewer commented, “Incredible meal. Faultless service. Just sad I couldn’t try the whole menu. Very average pricing for a London dinner. Interesting, largely Italian wine list starting around £35.” Another noted, “Just enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch at Rosina. Friendly and faultless service from Faye. A beautiful dining room, which is light and airy. Every item on the menu looked delicious.”

A third reviewer added, “Excellent food and warm, attentive service from all the staff. Brought my folks to celebrate my mother’s birthday, and they absolutely loved it. We’ll be back.” The restaurant’s strong early reception and Wareing’s endorsement highlight its potential as a notable addition to London’s dining scene.
