The family of acclaimed actor Tommy Lee Jones is mourning the tragic loss of his daughter, Victoria Jones, who was found dead in a San Francisco hotel on the first day of the new year.
A Tragic Discovery on New Year's Day
Victoria Jones, aged 34, was discovered unresponsive at the Fairmont San Francisco hotel in the early hours of 1 January. Police were called to the scene at around 3am to respond to a medical emergency. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the location. Initial reports, including dispatch audio obtained by TMZ, suggested the call was categorised as a "code 3 for the overdose, colour change." However, officials have not yet confirmed an official cause of death. The San Francisco Police Department has stated they do not suspect foul play.
A Family's Request for Privacy Amidst Grief
In the wake of this devastating event, the Jones family has issued a brief statement appealing for respect and space. "We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers," the statement read. "Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you." Victoria was the daughter of the Men in Black star and his second wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. The couple, who also have a 43-year-old son named Austin, divorced in 1996.
A Life of Promise and Personal Struggles
Victoria Jones had occasional forays into the film industry, appearing as a child in Men in Black II alongside her father and in his directed film, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. She also made an appearance on the television series One Tree Hill.
However, recent years were marked by significant personal challenges. Court records reveal a series of misdemeanour arrests in 2023 in Napa and Santa Cruz counties, including charges for obstruction, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics, and domestic battery.
In a poignant move last year, Tommy Lee Jones successfully petitioned a Marin County court to place his daughter under a temporary conservatorship. His filing argued she was engaging in "life-threatening conduct" and urgently needed drug rehabilitation services not available in a hospital setting. The petition stated Victoria needed to "recover and work towards sobriety" and would suffer "irreparable harm" without a transfer to a dedicated facility. At the time of the request, she was reportedly being held involuntarily at a hospital in Greenbrae, California, after being deemed a danger to herself or others.
The family, friends, and colleagues of the Jones family now await further details from authorities while grappling with this profound loss.
