Sourdough Sophia to Open First Central London Bakery in Covent Garden
Sourdough Sophia Opens First Central London Bakery

Sourdough Sophia, the beloved north London bakery chain, is expanding into central London for the first time with a new location in Covent Garden. The bakery, known for its pastel pink storefronts and artisan breads, will open at 16 Neal's Yard, though an official opening date has not yet been announced.

From Lockdown Micro-Bakery to West End Presence

Founded in 2020 by Sophia Handschuh, daughter of a baker, and her husband Jesse Sutton-Jones, Sourdough Sophia began as a micro-bakery in their flat during lockdown. At its peak, the duo baked nearly 100 loaves of sourdough bread daily. The new Covent Garden branch will be the sixth overall, joining existing locations in Crouch End, Primrose Hill, Hampstead, Essex Road, and Highgate.

What to Expect at the Covent Garden Location

The menu will feature signature sourdough made with just flour, water, and salt, along with cinnamon cruffins and sandwiches such as the beef pastrami and emmental bun with jalapeño relish. Handschuh expressed pride in building the brand's presence across London, calling the Covent Garden opening 'extra special' for its widespread appeal and community feel.
