The Traitors season four champion Rachel Duffy has returned to social media with a deeply moving tribute to her late mother, who sadly passed away last week. The reality television star, aged 43, had previously spoken fondly of her mum during her time on the hit BBC series, revealing that her intention for the £47,875 prize money was to create special memories with her mother, who had been diagnosed with both Parkinson's disease and dementia.
A Poignant Social Media Post
Just days after her victory alongside fellow Traitor Stephen Libby was broadcast on television, the mother-of-three took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news that her 'beautiful wee mummy' had died. In a heartfelt message posted on her Instagram account, Rachel reflected on her mother's enduring legacy and the profound impact she had on their family.
She wrote: 'Thank you for loving us so much. Thank you for teaching us our worth. Thank you for so much kindness shown and taught. Thank you for endless laughs and lots of fun.'
Gratitude and Remembrance
Rachel continued her emotional tribute by expressing further gratitude: 'Thank you for helping us parent our babies. Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on when we needed one. Thank you for the many words of wisdom over the years. Thank you for showing us the true meaning of integrity.'
The Northern Ireland resident concluded her sweet tribute by thanking her mother for a 'beautiful life,' a 'lifetime of memories' and simply 'being our mummy.' Alongside her poignant caption, she shared a series of cherished photographs featuring her mother, including family portraits, holiday snapshots, and celebrations of family achievements.
Support from Traitors Co-Stars
Rachel's Traitors co-stars have rallied around her during this difficult time, offering their support and condolences in the comments section of her post. Stephen Libby wrote: 'Although I never met her I know how much of an incredible woman your mother must have been to have you and your siblings turn out the way you have, a truly beautiful family.'
Jade expressed: 'Sending you all my love and keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Your mama would be so proud of the woman you are.'
Faraaz added: 'Just know how proud your mam is of you and the mother you are to your kids,' while both Matty and Roxy shared their 'love' to Rachel and her family. Even Traitors host Claudia Winkleman showed her support by posting three heart emojis in response to the emotional tribute.
Mother's Excitement for the Show
The Traitors season four aired throughout January, and earlier this month Rachel had shared how excited her mother had been to see her as a Traitor on the popular television programme. She posted an image of her mother holding a personalised t-shirt which read: 'My daughter's a traitor,' and shared that everything her mother had done for their family was 'nothing short of incredible.'
Following her victory on the show, Rachel had told Metro that she had informed her family about her win and was beginning to make plans for how to use the prize money. She explained: 'My first plan is just going to be sitting with my family and asking them, "What can we do?" I told my mum this morning, and it was the nicest thing, so the first thing will be to treat her and the kids.'
The reality star's tribute serves as a touching reminder of the special bond between mother and daughter, and the importance of family amidst life's challenges and triumphs.
