Major Far Cry 7 Details Emerge Through Leaked Screenshots
In the absence of any official information from Ubisoft, the gaming community is abuzz with fresh rumours regarding the next instalment in the Far Cry series. A series of supposedly leaked screenshots, shared online, appear to reveal key details about Far Cry 7, including its new setting and a significant shift towards multiplayer gameplay.
It has been four years since the release of Far Cry 6, and the silence from Ubisoft has been notable for such a prolific franchise. This quiet period aligns with industry speculation that the previous title did not meet the company's commercial expectations. The lack of news was briefly addressed a few months ago by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, who stated that the company planned to place a greater emphasis on the multiplayer elements of the Far Cry series in the future.
Inside the Alleged Leak
The new information originates from a source known as Rogue I TX on the social media platform X. This individual, who previously worked as a dataminer for Ubisoft's now-defunct shooter XDefiant, claims to have obtained screenshots from the upcoming game. While the exact origin of these images remains unclear, they offer a compelling, if unverified, glimpse into the project.
According to the leak, Far Cry 7 is set in the wilds of Alaska, specifically in a fictional area named Paradise Park. Intriguingly, this location is described as featuring lush forests and even jungle temples, suggesting a departure from a purely realistic depiction of the Alaskan landscape. The leak also mentions mission names such as 'Airspace', 'NASA HQ', and 'JFK Centre'.
Furthermore, the source indicates that the game will be built on the Snowdrop Engine – the same technology powering titles like The Division. Vehicles are also confirmed to be returning, specifically within the new multiplayer mode.
Extraction Shooter: A Separate Game or a New Mode?
The most significant revelation concerns the gameplay. The leaks strongly point towards the inclusion of an extraction multiplayer mode. This aligns with older reports from reputable insider Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who previously claimed Ubisoft was developing a Far Cry extraction shooter set in Alaska.
However, there appears to be some confusion about the project's structure. Henderson's reports suggested that the extraction shooter and Far Cry 7 were initially a single project before being split into two separate games, with Far Cry 7 remaining a traditional single-player experience. In contrast, the new leak from Rogue I TX posits that the extraction mode is part of Far Cry 7 itself, potentially featuring a separate map from the main story campaign.
Adding to the single-player narrative, leaked images include a family photo, supporting the long-rumoured plot about rescuing your family from kidnappers. The styling of the photo, however, hints that the family depicted may actually be the villains of the story.
Adding credibility to the leak is the fact that the original posts containing some of the map screenshots have since been deleted from X, a common occurrence when unofficial material is shared. Ubisoft itself seems to be in a period of decision-making, with the final form of the multiplayer component – whether integrated or separate – still potentially undecided.
Fans are now looking towards The Game Awards in December 2025 for a potential official announcement. If the company remains silent, the next likely showcase would be a Ubisoft Forward event in the summer of 2026, especially after the company skipped its annual presentation this year.
