In a dramatic turn of events on EastEnders, postman Howie Danes (Delroy Atkinson) plunges into a life of crime, all to win the approval of his partner, Kim Fox (Tameka Empson). His downward spiral was triggered after he overheard Kim comparing him unfavourably to her ex, Vincent Hubbard, questioning his ability to provide for her.

Howie's moral compass began to falter significantly. After winning £6,000 in a successful bet with Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker), the money was stolen in a bungled burglary by Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier). Determined to reclaim the cash, Howie confronted Oscar and his sister, Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa). He successfully recovered the money and the balaclava used in the crime, but this victory came at the cost of his integrity.
His criminal activities didn't stop there. To help Kim replace her destroyed recording equipment, Howie took a second job as a parcel delivery driver. Temptation struck again when he discovered a gold necklace in a parcel, which he promptly pocketed to boost his illicit earnings.
A Stolen Ring and a Romantic Proposal
The plot thickens next week when Patrick catches Howie with a ring and assumes a proposal to Kim is imminent. Howie does indeed pop the question during the Christmas lights switch-on, and an overjoyed Kim accepts. However, the romantic moment is shadowed by growing suspicion.
Patrick's son, Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey), becomes curious about the ring's origin after hearing reports of jewellery going missing in the postal system. As Kim excitedly begins planning an engagement party, Anthony's doubts intensify, setting the stage for a major confrontation.

Howie, however, is not defenceless. When Anthony finally confronts him with his suspicions, Howie retaliates by revealing some damaging information of his own about the doctor. This leads to a tense stalemate, with both men holding secrets over the other.
