Coronation Street viewers have finally had a major mystery solved, as the identity of the enigmatic new character Jodie was dramatically revealed. Played by actress Olivia Frances-Brown, Jodie's arrival on the cobbles has been shrouded in secrecy since she first appeared on the cast list just before Christmas.
A Mysterious and Traumatic Arrival
Jodie's introduction to the ITV soap was anything but ordinary. Fans first saw her on January 10, 2026, tied up in the back of a van belonging to Emmerdale villain Graham Foster, portrayed by Andrew Scarborough. With no explanation for her predicament, she managed to escape into the woods, where she was discovered by Kit Green, played by Jacob Roberts.
The clearly traumatised woman tried to hide her face, but in doing so revealed a distinctive tattoo. In a twist that sparked immediate fan speculation, this tattoo was identical to one sported by established character Shona Platt, played by Julia Goulding.
Sinister Behaviour and a Family Connection
The plot thickened following the multi-vehicle pile-up that tragically killed Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and sent Shona into early labour. As both women were taken to hospital, Jodie's behaviour became increasingly suspicious. When David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) wheeled Shona down a corridor, Jodie spotted them and, according to a doctor, looked like she'd seen a ghost.
Her actions grew more peculiar the next day. After following the Platts to Weatherfield General, Jodie sneaked into Shona's room. Before rifling through Shona's hospital bag, she left a stolen plush rabbit toy and was seen sniffing Shona's dressing gown—an intimate act that strongly hinted at a deep, personal connection.
The Truth Comes Out
The week's episodes culminated in the revelation fans had been waiting for. After Shona successfully gave birth to a baby girl named Harper, Jodie was seen watching the new family through a hospital window. When a passer-by asked if she was the proud mother, Jodie replied, 'No... I'm the proud aunty.'
Shona later confirmed to a bewildered David that Jodie is indeed her sister, solving one major piece of the puzzle. This confirmed eagle-eyed viewers' theories, who had noted the physical resemblance between the characters and recalled Shona's past mentions of having a sibling.
While the family link is now clear, many questions remain. How did Jodie end up in Graham Foster's van? What is the story behind the matching tattoos? And what does her sudden appearance mean for Shona, David, and baby Harper's future?
The actress behind Jodie, Olivia Frances-Brown, is no stranger to television. Prior to joining the Weatherfield cast, she appeared in an episode of the 2023 series Boiling Point and 2024's The Gathering. She also featured in the music video for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds song, Council Skies.
