The Cockpit, a micropub in Chislehurst, has been named one of four finalists in the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) National Pub of the Year 2026 competition. The pub, located in Royal Parade, will compete for the title of best pub in the UK.
This recognition follows The Cockpit being crowned Greater London Pub of the Year for the first time in August. Adam Miller, licensee of The Cockpit, described the news as "boggling" and said it has caused "a frenzy of frenetic jubilation" among the team.
A pub stripped back to basics
Mr Miller said: "This is a pub stripped back to basics, where the pristinity of our ales, ciders, food and wine speak to the uncompromising standards of the producers that grace our floorboards."
He added: "Thank you to all the stagehands that keep the wheels in motion, both on the jump and behind the curtain, and thank you, CAMRA, for recognising our little boozer with this accreditation; what splendid company to be in."
The Cockpit opened its doors in December 2020 during the pandemic, becoming Chislehurst's first micropub. It offers a selection of cask beers from small breweries across the country, with bar stools sharing space with flowers sold by the florist operating from the same building.
Competition among four finalists
The Cockpit will now face three other finalists in the competition: The Turks Head in St Helens, The Countryman's Inn in Hunton, and The Tamworth Tap in Tamworth.
Ellie Eames, director of CAMRA Greater London, said: "I am delighted that the Cockpit won our Greater London Pub of the Year award and has now been judged among the top four pubs nationally. I have been there several times this year and always enjoy my visits."
Recognition amid industry challenges
Andrea Briers, CAMRA Pub of the Year Coordinator, added: "I'm so proud of our final four pubs for 2026. Despite the well-documented challenges facing our pubs and brewers, these licensees have not just survived, but thrived. All four are amazing places that are definitely worth a visit, whether you want a top-quality pint, or just a brilliant community-orientated vibe."
The winner of the CAMRA National Pub of the Year 2026 will be announced by the organisation, with The Cockpit now awaiting the final decision.
