McDonald's in Sutton has reopened its doors to customers following a comprehensive refurbishment that has transformed the restaurant's interior and operational layout. The branch welcomed guests on October 7 after the renovation work was completed, unveiling a redesigned dining area, colourful seating arrangements, and advanced self-service ordering technology.
New interior design and seating options
Photographs from inside the revamped restaurant reveal a fresh aesthetic featuring orange and brown curved booths, yellow bench seating, and a mix of wooden tables, chairs, and black-and-white patterned stools. Wooden panelling runs throughout the dining space, while large coloured screens in shades of red, orange, yellow, and green separate different seating zones, creating distinct areas for customers.
One of the most striking additions is a large red circular feature mounted on a patterned wall at the back of the restaurant, surrounded by tables and booth seating. A long wooden communal table with green edging has also been introduced, with stools positioned around it for group dining. Customers can choose from smaller tables or larger curved seating areas, depending on their preference.
Technology-driven ordering system
Several self-service ordering screens are now spread across the restaurant, with ample open space between the kiosks and dining areas to facilitate customer flow. Colourful animal decorations, including a fox, frog, and bear, hang from the ceiling, adding a playful touch to the environment.
The refurbishment is part of McDonald's reimaging programme, which focuses on updating restaurant layouts and integrating technology to accommodate the evolving ways customers place orders. The kitchen and dining areas at the Sutton branch have been redesigned to better integrate orders placed through digital channels and the McDonald's app. Separate zones have been created for different ordering methods, while the traditional front counter has been removed entirely.
Efficiency and staff improvements
McDonald's stated that the changes are intended to make ordering more efficient and provide more space for customers dining inside the restaurant. Behind the scenes, the crew room has been redesigned to offer employees a new space to use during their breaks, reflecting a focus on staff welfare.
The Sutton restaurant is owned and operated by local franchisee Shanu Subra, who expressed pride in the investment. “I’m proud to reinvest in our Sutton restaurant,” Shanu said. “Seeing the transformation come to life has been incredible, and I’m delighted with the improvements we’ve made. I’m confident the investment will have a positive impact for both our customers and our restaurant team, helping us provide an even better experience for everyone who visits.”
Broader context and reopening
The changes come as McDonald's continues to alter the layouts of some of its restaurants to cater for walk-in customers alongside app and other digital orders. The Sutton branch is now open to the public following the refurbishment, marking the completion of the renovation project.
