The streets of London's historic Fleet Street Quarter are about to get a delightful canine makeover as twelve specially commissioned Snoopy sculptures prepare to take up residence throughout the area.
Celebrating 75 Years of Peanuts
This charming installation marks the 75th anniversary of Charles M. Schulz's beloved Peanuts comic strip, bringing its most iconic character back to his newspaper roots in a neighbourhood once synonymous with British journalism. Each sculpture will feature the world-famous beagle perched atop his signature red doghouse, reimagined by twelve different artists through their unique creative visions.
The Snoopy Sculpture Trail represents a collaborative effort between Fleet Street Quarter BID, Wild in Art, and Peanuts Worldwide. From Saturday, November 19, visitors can embark on a treasure hunt to discover all twelve sculptures placed in surprise locations throughout the Quarter.
An Illuminating Christmas Celebration
The sculptures will be officially unveiled during the Christmas lights switch-on event at Ludgate Circus on Wednesday, November 19, transforming the area into a vibrant winter wonderland from 5pm to 8pm. Each artwork will be illuminated in dazzling colours, creating a magical evening experience for Londoners and tourists alike.
Adding to the interactive experience, comedian Olaf Falafel has narrated a unique audio guide that connects the trail, while participating artists include social media sensation Becky Smith and award-winning children's author Fran Preston-Gannon.
Bridging Past and Present
The installation cleverly connects Fleet Street's rich publishing heritage with contemporary public art. From the earliest printing presses to the rise of satirical magazines like Punch, this district has long been associated with storytelling in both word and image.
Tara Botwick, senior director at Peanuts, expressed her enthusiasm: "Snoopy's story began on the pages of newspapers and 75 years later it is an honour to see him celebrated in a neighbourhood that also has deep ties to that industry. These new sculptures are sure to bring joy to Londoners and tourists."
