Coronation Street: Hope and Ruby reveal Tyrone's long-lost dad in DNA bombshell
Coronation Street: Hope and Ruby find Tyrone's dad via DNA

Coronation Street's Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) is about to have his world turned upside down once again, this time by his daughters Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby Dobbs (Billie Naylor). The pair have secretly sent off a sample of Tyrone's DNA and discovered the identity of his long-lost father, Ross, played by Ian Burfield.

Tyrone's recent struggles

The past year has been challenging for the Weatherfield mechanic. He suffered life-changing injuries in a hit-and-run caused by Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), leaving him confined to a wheelchair. His recovery strained his marriage to Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), though with support from his family—including mother Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney)—he began to recover.

Tyrone also faced legal trouble after being implicated in the murder of Theo Silverton. On the night the abuser was killed, Tyrone accidentally caused a car to crush Carl, the man responsible for his hit-and-run. He later saw Theo alive that night but stayed silent to avoid implicating himself, leaving Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) as a suspect. After Summer hospitalised herself, Tyrone confessed, clearing her name.

The DNA bombshell

Now, just as that drama subsides, Hope and Ruby have a new surprise. In upcoming scenes, the girls let themselves into the house, expecting it empty, but Fiz senses they're up to something. Cassie catches them engrossed in an email on Hope's phone, but they refuse to explain, saying it's a surprise for Tyrone. They reveal they sent off a DNA sample and found his dad.

Tyrone's father Ross, played by Ian Burfield (known for EastEnders and The Bill), will arrive on the Cobbles. His debut coincides with Cassie's exit. Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks teased: 'He comes into the world of Fiz and Tyrone. Tyrone’s in the mindset of “I’m in my 20s, I’ve survived this long without a dad.” The dad is very keen to connect with Tyrone. It’s not long before the dad makes eyes at one of the residents, and maybe a bit of a relationship starts there. It’s very domesticated. It really shines a spotlight on Fiz and Tyrone as a couple and that dynamic as a family.'

Brooks added: 'Cassie is, needless to say, not happy that this guy has turned back up.'
