Sister's Heartbreaking Tribute to Artist Found Three Years After Disappearance
The family of a missing artist has released an emotional tribute after her body was discovered in Liverpool, three years after she was last seen. Delia McInerney, 64, is believed to have died around April 2023, but her remains were only found on January 8, 2026, following a police search of a flat in Gerards Court, St Helens.
Family Remembers a 'Rebel' and Talented Artist
Rita McInerney, Delia's sister, described her late sibling as a 'rebel – intelligent with a dynamic personality, kind, caring and helpful'. She added, 'She was well-loved as a sister and friend. I will miss her always.' Delia, who lived on Douglas Road in Anfield, Liverpool, was also remembered as a 'great artist, a free spirit, really "out there"' by her grieving sister.
Police Investigation and Charges Filed
Merseyside Police have charged George Gordon, 65, of Gerards Court in St Helens, with McInerney's murder. Gordon faces additional charges including three counts of fraud, one of theft, preventing the lawful burial of a body, and obstructing a coroner. A trial date has been set for October 2026, with Gordon due to appear next at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday.
The investigation involved searches at both the Gerards Court flat and McInerney's home in Anfield. The case highlights the prolonged mystery surrounding her disappearance and the tragic discovery that has brought closure to her family after years of uncertainty.
