Cyberpunk 2077 Enhances Console Experience with New PS5 Pro Update
CD Projekt's sci-fi role-playing game, Cyberpunk 2077, has launched a significant free update for the PS5 Pro, introducing advanced graphical modes and support for up to 90 frames per second. This release marks another step in the game's transformation since its troubled 2020 debut, following numerous bug fixes, the Phantom Liberty expansion, and various feature additions.
Visual Upgrades and Performance Modes Detailed
The update, as detailed in a recent PlayStation Blog post, delivers 4K resolution and enhanced ray tracing capabilities. It includes three new graphical settings designed to cater to different player preferences. Ray Tracing Pro mode offers the most visually advanced experience on PS5 Pro, featuring ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, and emissive lighting, targeting 40fps on variable refresh rate displays or 30fps otherwise.
For those prioritizing smooth gameplay, Performance mode achieves up to 90fps at a reduced graphical fidelity. Meanwhile, Ray Tracing mode strikes a balance, providing certain ray tracing improvements while maintaining a steady 60fps. The update also integrates Sony's PSSR 2.0 upscaler, aimed at improving image quality across supported titles.
Expert Analysis Reveals Minor Technical Quibbles
In a review by tech experts Digital Foundry, the update was praised overall but highlighted some minor quibbles, primarily related to occasional frame rate fluctuations across the new modes. Despite these issues, the enhancements are seen as a substantial improvement, making Cyberpunk 2077 look better than ever on console platforms.
CD Projekt has shifted focus to developing a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 4, expected in 2027, with rumors of new The Witcher 3 DLC possibly releasing this year. Beyond PlayStation, Cyberpunk 2077 remains available on Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, ensuring broad accessibility for gamers worldwide.
