Supermarket giant Aldi has issued an urgent product recall for one of its popular Christmas treats following the discovery of potentially dangerous undeclared peanuts.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall specifically affects Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks in the 90g packaging. Customers should check their purchases immediately as the product may contain peanuts that are not listed on the ingredient label.
According to the Food Standards Agency, this poses a significant health risk to individuals with peanut allergies or intolerances. The affected batches include all best before dates and carry the batch code 4061463276865.
What Should Customers Do?
Aldi has issued clear instructions for customers who have purchased the product. Anyone with a peanut allergy should not consume the gonks under any circumstances.
Instead, customers are advised to return the product to their nearest Aldi store where they will receive a full refund. No receipt is required for the return process.
In an official statement, Aldi apologised to customers, stating: "We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."
Not The First Peanut-Related Recall
This incident marks the second time in recent months that Aldi has faced similar issues. Just last month, the supermarket chain recalled its Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um's over identical concerns about undeclared peanuts.
Charity organisation Anaphylaxis UK responded to the previous recall on October 31, warning that the product was "unsuitable for and should be avoided by anyone with an allergy or intolerance to peanuts."
Aldi has confirmed it is working with allergy support groups to ensure affected customers are properly informed about the current recall. The supermarket has also implemented point-of-sale notices in stores to alert shoppers about the safety issue.
