BBC's decision to broadcast from Atlanta
The BBC chose to remain in the UK for most of the World Cup to minimize costs for the expanded 48-team tournament and reduce its carbon footprint. ITV, in contrast, has been based in Brooklyn, New York, with studio views of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge.
Presenters and pundits
Mark Chapman will host the coverage from Atlanta. He has shared presenting duties with Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates throughout the tournament, replacing Gary Lineker as cost-hosts of Match of the Day last year. This summer's World Cup is the first major men's international tournament since 2002 without Lineker on presenting duties for the BBC.
Chapman will be joined by former England players Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, and Micah Richards as pundits. Rooney is a well-known figure, while Hart earned 75 caps for England as a goalkeeper between 2008 and 2017, representing his country at three major tournaments. Richards played 13 times for England between 2006 and 2012 and has become a leading TV pundit since retiring.
Commentary team
Guy Mowbray, a regular on Match of the Day since 2004, will be the lead commentator for the match. He will be joined by England and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer behind the microphone.
