A 23-year-old woman has died following a crash on the A13 in Rainham, with a 24-year-old man arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit. The incident occurred near the Ferry Lane slip road on the southbound carriageway at approximately 9:15pm on Saturday, July 4.
Emergency Response and Fatalities
Emergency services attended the scene, where the woman was pronounced dead. Two other passengers from the same vehicle—a 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman—were taken to hospital with injuries assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing. The driver of the car, a 24-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and remains in custody for questioning.
Police Statement and Investigation
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a passenger in one of the cars – a woman aged 23 – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers. The driver of that car – a man aged 24 – was arrested at scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit. He remains in custody for questioning."
The A13 reopened earlier this morning (Sunday, July 5), but an investigation scene remains in place on the road. Officers are appealing for anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference 7775/4Jul.
