IKEA has issued an urgent recall for a popular kitchen gadget, the 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic press in black, due to fears that small metal fragments could break off and contaminate food. The Swedish furniture giant discovered a production defect during an internal inspection that may cause tiny metal pieces to detach from the press while in use, posing a potential health hazard if ingested.
Affected Products
The recall specifically targets garlic presses with article number 601.636.02. These were sold globally in IKEA stores and online. Customers can identify the faulty items by checking the date stamp on the black plastic handle, which ranges from 2411 to 2522 (in the format YYWW, where 2411 corresponds to week 11 of 2024). Additionally, an IKEA logo on the upper handle distinguishes the affected batch.
Refund Process
IKEA has instructed customers who own the recalled garlic press to stop using it immediately and return it to any IKEA store for a full refund. No receipt or proof of purchase is required. The company also encourages customers who may have given the item as a gift or lent it to others to share the recall notice.
Other Recent Recalls
This is not the only recall IKEA has issued recently. Other products recalled include:
- Spatula (365+ HJÄLTE): Date stamp 2445 or later.
- Power Bank (VARMFRONT): Date stamps 2313, 2316, 2318, or 2319 due to fire hazard.
- ÅSKSTORM 40W USB charger dark grey: Article number 60461197.
- Mirrors (LETTAN): Date stamps before and including 2105.
- ROSTAD LÖK fried onion: 100g, article number 302.371.76, best before dates 02-06-2026 to 22-11-2026.
- BLÅVINGAD fishing game: All versions due to small metal rivets coming loose, posing choking hazard.
How to Check Date Stamps
IKEA date stamps use a Year-Week format (e.g., 2411 means 2024, week 11). For the garlic press, the stamp is on the black plastic handle. For furniture and other items, it is typically a 4-digit number on a sticker underneath or on the back. For full details, visit the IKEA website.
