Chessington World of Adventure has opened the world's first PAW Patrol theme park zone, and it's a delightful addition for young children. The new area, World of PAW Patrol, features four rides, a gift shop, a play area, and themed snacks. While it may not have the glossy immersion of Disneyland, it offers a charming experience for preschoolers and their families.
First Impressions
Chessington is the most old-fashioned of the big London-adjacent theme parks, with random zoo bits scattered around. However, it has been investing in modern IPs. After 2023's World of Jumanji, the park is expanding rapidly, with a Minecraft zone coming next summer. The PAW Patrol zone is a major addition, capitalizing on the massive popularity of the cartoon about talking puppies who fight crime in Adventure Bay.
The Rides
There are four rides, all pitched at a young audience. Marshall's Firetruck Rescue spins gently in a small firetruck to rescue a cat. Skye's Helicopter Heroes offers a horizontal spin with nice views. Chase's Mountain Mission is a standout rollercoaster for little ones, providing a fair zip and sharp leans without being too scary. It includes a story with Mayor Goodway and a baguette-stealing eagle.
Best of all is Zuma's Hovercraft Adventure, the UK's first drifter ride. Your hovercraft rotates around a central hub, and pulling a lever sends it into a fast, erratic spin. It's thrilling and fun, like bumper cars without collisions.
Play Area and Atmosphere
The zone includes a decent play area. However, the sense of being in Adventure Bay is limited. The iconic Lookout base is present but you can't go up the tower, and the background music never plays the theme tune. Despite these minor drawbacks, the zone hits the spot for its target audience.
Overall Verdict
World of PAW Patrol is a fine new zone for PAW Patrol-loving preschoolers. Older primary school kids will enjoy the Chase and Zuma rides. While the upcoming Minecraft zone may need more techy gloss, this zone delivers exactly what it promises. It's open now at Chessington World of Adventure.
