Summit Ally Pally: UK's Highest Roof Walk Opens at Alexandra Palace

Londoners now have a spectacular new way to experience the capital from breathtaking heights. Summit Ally Pally, officially recognized as the United Kingdom's highest roof walk, has launched at the iconic Alexandra Palace in North London. The attraction welcomed its first visitors under brilliant blue skies on Valentine's Day, marking a sell-out debut with 240 climbers ascending one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.

Memorable Opening Day Features Romantic Proposal

The inaugural day delivered unforgettable moments that organizers had envisioned, including sweeping skyline views stretching up to 25 miles across London. A particularly romantic highlight occurred on the Rose Window balcony, where a climber proposed to their partner, stealing the spotlight and adding to the day's magic. Perched high above the city, this unique experience combines adrenaline, stunning scenery, and a serious dose of wow-factor, offering visitors a completely fresh perspective on London.

Weekend and Holiday Operations with Summer Events

For those who missed the opening day, Summit Ally Pally is just getting started. The attraction will operate every weekend and throughout the upcoming Easter holidays, with bookings now open for the coming months. Summer dates are expected to be extremely popular, with climbs scheduled to coincide with key Ally Pally events. These include the Red Bull Soapbox Race, Father's Day celebrations, the Summer Solstice, and the Kaleidoscope Festival. Visitors will even have the opportunity to take in panoramic views during the venue's legendary Fireworks weekend later this year.

Diverse Climb Options for Different Experiences

Climbers can select from a range of experiences tailored to how they wish to see the city. Standard daytime climbs showcase London's sprawling skyline in full daylight, while sunset sessions capture the golden hour across the capital. For those seeking something extra special, the London Lights option provides dramatic night-time panoramas as the city sparkles after dark. Group bookings, school climbs, and private experiences are also available, with organizers noting that the roof walk pairs perfectly with Ally Pally's packed entertainment schedule, making it an ideal pre-concert or pre-event activity.

Organizers Celebrate Successful Launch

Andy Broad, Managing Director at Wire & Sky, described the launch as an unforgettable moment. "Seeing more than 200 climbers take to the roof over the opening day was incredible," he said. "We've been planning this for a long time, and to have the sun shining—plus our first proposal on the very first weekend—was the perfect start. Summit Ally Pally is about bringing a totally fresh perspective to London, and we're just getting started."

Pricing and Practical Information

Prices for the experience start from £28 for adults and £22 for under-18s. The roof walk is open to visitors aged eight and over, with specific height restrictions applying. All under-18 participants must be accompanied by an adult. This new attraction not only offers thrilling views but also enhances Alexandra Palace's status as a premier destination for entertainment and adventure in London.
