A British holidaymaker has died after a violent tornado tore through a hotel in Portugal, as Storm Claudia battered the popular Algarve region.
Storm Claudia's Deadly Impact
The victim, an 85-year-old British woman, was initially reported missing following the severe weather event that struck the resort town of Albufeira on the morning of November 15, 2025. Emergency services later discovered her deceased.
Casualties and Official Response
The tornado, a rare and powerful phenomenon spawned by Storm Claudia, caused significant injuries beyond the single fatality. Two more people sustained serious injuries, while a further 26 individuals were hurt during the incident.
Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa publicly expressed his condolences, stating his “solidarity with the family of the victim who died as a result of Storm Claudia’s passage this morning in Albufeira.”
