The unexpected sight occurred as part of a promotional event marking the launch of Domino's new Italianos pizza range, bringing a slice of authentic Italian flair to the heart of London.
A Gondola Named 'Domdola' Brings La Dolce Vita to London
Coppola, born in Italy, took the helm of the 'Domdola' – a Venetian-inspired gondola created by Domino's – to deliver pizzas through one of the capital's most scenic waterways. The event aimed to celebrate the Italianos range, which features thinner crusts and carefully selected ingredients, promising an elevated pizza experience. As the gondola glided along the canal, it attracted considerable attention from passers-by, turning the launch into a public spectacle.
"As an Italian, I take my pizza very seriously," Coppola remarked. "So, if you're going to bring a slice of Italy to the UK, you have to do it properly. Swapping the dancing shoes for a gondola was not something I thought I would be adding to my CV, but the range deserved a proper Italian welcome."

Mei‑lei seized the romantic atmosphere to propose to their partner, Sharna, resulting in an enthusiastic acceptance. The couple had been walking along the canals when they spotted Coppola on the gondola, leading to an invitation aboard that transformed into a magical moment.
"I was already planning to propose, but I never imagined it would happen like this," said the newly engaged Mei‑lei. "We were walking along the canals when we spotted Vito on the gondola and suddenly everything became magical. Being invited on board and popping the question with Vito cheering us on made it feel like something out of a film. I'm so happy she said yes."
