The Richmond Hill Hotel in southwest London has been named the best afternoon tea in the capital for 2026 by lifestyle guide Muddy Stilettos, after nearly half a million reader votes were counted in the Muddy Awards. The hotel's offering, which includes a savoury-only option and a themed tea inspired by Enid Blyton's 'The Magic Faraway Tree', beat a shortlist that included renowned venues Sketch and Fortnum & Mason.
Two Distinct Afternoon Tea Menus
The hotel serves two kinds of afternoon tea. The 'Enchanted Treehouse Afternoon Tea' costs £46 per person and is inspired by Enid Blyton's Magic Faraway Tree. It features unusual treats such as chicken mousse with tarragon and celery in a charcoal tartlet, and fig frangipane with mascarpone cream, alongside classics like egg mayo on spinach bread and lemon meringue tart.
For those who prefer savoury flavours, the hotel offers a savoury afternoon tea at the same price of £46. Instead of sweet items, this menu includes ham hock and pea croquettes, spicy sticky cauliflower bites, and sweet and smoky chicken tenders. The classic scones and jam are replaced with caramelised onion and rosemary scones served with black garlic hummus.
Tea Selection and Add-Ons
A range of loose-leaf teas accompanies both menus, including Chinese lapsang souchong, Rwandan virunga, and Taiwanese oolong. Guests can also add a glass of champagne or a gin cocktail for an extra £10, or a glass of English sparkling rosé wine for £12 more.
The Richmond Hill Hotel faced strong competition in the awards. Finalists included Sketch and Fortnum & Mason, both of which are also listed in Time Out's guide to the finest afternoon teas in the capital. The Muddy Awards 2026 counted nearly half a million votes from readers to determine the winner.
