Michelin Star awarded restaurateurs are set to open a new steak house in Notting Hill, West London, with a mission to tackle food waste by serving less popular cuts of meat. The restaurant, named Rump Steak, will occupy a former estate agents on Lancaster Road.
Focus on Alternative Cuts
Rump Steak aims to reduce food waste by featuring cuts that are not commonly found in fine-dining establishments. The venue will accommodate up to 50 guests inside, with an additional 16 seats on the forecourt for al fresco dining. The operators are the team behind the Michelin Star restaurant Dorian and Eel Sushi Bar, both located in Notting Hill.
Licensing Hearing Details
During a Kensington and Chelsea Licensing Sub-Committee hearing on July 23, legal counsel Mr. Jack Spiegler emphasized the applicants' extensive experience in the borough. “As an existing Notting Hill Michelin Star holder the applicant can reassure you and local residents that this involves the highest possible standards of food, drinks service and customer care as well as robust management systems to ensure a professional and sympathetic business operation alongside local residents,” he said.
Opposition from Property Developer
Railway Mews Limited, a property developer, opposed the application, arguing it would “effectively move hospitality into what is a residential area.” The company is developing six new town houses adjacent to the premises. Their legal counsel raised concerns about outdoor seating and customer dispersal, as well as the accuracy of submitted plans for the outdoor area. However, the applicant agreed to a condition restricting patio use, limiting outdoor dining to the forecourt only.
Next Steps
The sub-committee is expected to issue a written decision within five working days of the hearing.
