Covent Garden Hotel Unveils Savory 'Afternoon Cheese' Experience
In a bold move to cater to savory enthusiasts, the Covent Garden Hotel is launching an innovative 'Afternoon Cheese' experience at its Brassiere Max restaurant, located near Seven Dials. Starting May 1, this unique offering replaces traditional sweet treats with a focus on British cheeses sourced from the renowned Neal's Yard Dairy, just around the corner.
A Savory Twist on Classic Afternoon Tea
For those who prefer gruyère over jam, this new menu addresses a gap in the market. Instead of the usual scones with cream and jam, guests can indulge in cheddar scones topped with goat's curd, caramelised onion, and chive oil. The pastries also get a savory makeover, featuring items like a stilton eclair with pickled walnuts and chives, a macaron infused with caramelised onion and soft mature goat's cheese, and a British brie-style cheese spread on malt and prune loaf.
Additionally, a burnt cheese tart made with raw milk cheese from Lincolnshire adds to the decadent lineup. Even the finger sandwiches are elevated, with Welsh rarebit stuffed doughnuts replacing soggy cucumber options.
Home-Grown Accompaniments and Pricing
To complement the cheesy delights, the hotel offers English wines from Kent producer Gusbourne, emphasizing a commitment to local produce. Priced at £56 per person, the 'Afternoon Cheese' experience is slightly more expensive than the hotel's traditional sweet afternoon tea, which costs £45 per person. However, it provides a rare opportunity for a savory tea experience in London.
The 'Afternoon Cheese' will be available daily from 2pm to 6pm, starting May 1, at Brassiere Max in the Covent Garden Hotel. This initiative highlights the growing trend of innovative culinary experiences in the city's hospitality sector.
