The initiative, called the London Finance Skills Deal, aims to address the talent gap in the financial services sector by providing training and job opportunities for Londoners, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
Details of the Deal
The deal brings together major financial institutions, training providers, and the Mayor of London's office. It will focus on digital skills, data analytics, and sustainable finance, among other areas. Participants will receive accredited training and guaranteed job interviews with partner firms.
According to a statement from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, "This deal will help Londoners gain the skills they need to succeed in the financial services industry, which is a key driver of our city's economy." The program is expected to cost £10 million, with funding coming from the participating companies and the government.
Impact on London's Financial Sector
The initiative comes at a time when London's financial sector faces a shortage of skilled workers, particularly in technology and data roles. A recent report by the City of London Corporation found that 40% of financial firms in the city struggle to recruit staff with the right digital skills. The London Finance Skills Deal aims to close this gap by training local talent.
