Hotel Indigo K West, located in a former BBC recording studio in Shepherd's Bush, has reopened after a multimillion-pound transformation by IHG, offering 231 rooms and suites with a retro seventies aesthetic. The hotel, which closed in 2023 for renovations, now features a restaurant called Flock, a spa and hydrotherapy pool set to open in autumn 2026, and a 24-hour gym. The property, once home to recording sessions by David Bowie, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, and Jimi Hendrix, has been a hotel since 2001 but has been completely redesigned with input from art consultancy Art Story.
A Nod to Musical Heritage
The building's rich musical history is a central theme in the new design. The earthy palette of salmon pink, yellow ochre, and olive green is a deliberate homage to the 1970s, when the studios were at their peak. The decor includes playful touches like a mustard-coloured rotary telephone on the wall for room service and a Roberts radio on the terrazzo desk, adding personality to the rooms. The premium room we stayed in, measuring 33 square metres, featured a large wood-framed mirror, a coffee table, and a headboard with no sharp edges, creating a soft, inviting atmosphere. The bathroom was equally characterful, with jade and turquoise tiles, a walk-in shower, and Urban Apothecary toiletries. One drawback: our room faced an office building about ten metres away, so views are not a selling point.
Dining at Flock Restaurant
Despite an initially unassuming menu, the hotel's restaurant, Flock, exceeded expectations. Dishes such as polenta crostini, roasted seabass, and a vegan pizza topped with kale and hemp pesto were all well-executed. The cocktail list impressed too, with the 'Carnival Encore'—made with chill-infused rum, coconut rum, lemongrass and ginger cordial, guava, and lime juice—standing out as one of the best crafted cocktails the reviewer had in a while. Breakfast offers a generous spread of pastries, fruits, charcuterie, and cheeses, alongside hot classics like eggs benedict, a full English, and porridge.
Facilities and Service
A spa with treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy pool is scheduled to open in autumn 2026, along with a 24-hour gym. The service team is largely young, and while there were a few teething issues, the staff were charming and attentive, easily resolving any concerns. The hotel is situated on a residential street, a short walk from Shepherd's Bush Station, providing a quiet retreat away from the area's usual bustle.
Exploring the Neighbourhood
Beyond the nearby Westfield shopping centre, the area offers a variety of bars, restaurants, and venues. Recommendations include Next Door Records, the Bush Tavern, Mr Dumpling, Chet's, Shepherd's Bush Market, and a range of Levantine bakeries. For live music, Bush Hall and the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire are top choices, and the Bush Theatre regularly stages new productions that later transfer to the West End. Notting Hill is within walking distance, making it convenient for Carnival at the end of August. Rooms start from £333 per night, and the hotel is easily accessible via Shepherd's Bush Underground and Rail Stations.
