Hitchin Lavender, a 30-acre flower farm in Hertfordshire less than an hour from London, will close for the summer season on August 15. The farm, known for its rows of lavender, vibrant sunflowers, and wildflower meadows, has become a popular day-trip destination, with visitors describing it as "stepping into a painting."
Final Days to See the Flowers
TikTok user Dani Dimitrova posted a video highlighting the farm's beauty and urging followers to visit before the season ends. "You only have until August 15 to visit one of the prettiest flower fields near London! If you've been looking for the perfect summer day trip, this is your sign," she said in the video. "With rows of lavender, vibrant sunflowers and colourful wildflowers, it genuinely feels like stepping into a painting. It's one of the last chances to enjoy the UK's summer flower season before it ends."
Dimitrova added: "The flower fiends are only open until August 15, so don't leave it too late! Have you been before, or is this going on your summer bucket list?"
What the Farm Offers
Beyond the main lavender fields, Hitchin Lavender includes a two-acre Display Field with around 60 different lavender varieties, wildflower meadows, a teahouse, food trucks, gift shops, and a museum. The farm reopens in October for Halloween-themed events, including pumpkin picking.
According to Hitchin Lavender's website, the Main Field spans over 30 acres of lavender. "We are the largest lavender farm in the UK that allows visitors to pick lavender – you can purchase picking bags at the gate or when booking tickets," the site states. "It’s the perfect spot to get fabulous photos of you and your loved ones, to enjoy delicious treats, and to soak up the natural goodness that only lavender can provide!"
The Display Field, located just outside the Main Field, is free to visit and showcases lavender in various shapes and colours, not just purple.
Blooming Seasons and Getting There
The farm's website explains that the Angustifolia, or 'English,' lavender varieties bloom between mid-June and the end of July, while the Intermedia or Lavandin varieties, which make up most of the field, flower from mid-July to mid-August.
Hitchin Lavender is located on Arlesey Road, just outside Ickleford, Hertfordshire, with the postcode SG5 3UA. By car, visitors can use sat nav. By public transport, take a Thameslink train from London St Pancras to Hitchin (around 30-40 minutes), then catch the 303 bus towards Hitchin Lavender.
