A huge new Gail's bakery is set to open in Westminster this summer, bringing its signature craft baking to the historic grounds of the former New Scotland Yard. The 3,200 sq. ft. location will debut in July at The Broadway, a landmark 1 million sq. ft. development in St James's Park.
While an exact launch date has yet to be announced, bosses have confirmed the bakery will accommodate 74 seats inside and 25 outside. Gail's will join a vibrant mix of street-level food and drink spots along a landscaped, pedestrianised thoroughfare, including atis, Farmer J, Açaí Berry, and Nostos Coffee.
Also opening at The Broadway in June is Coyo Taco, a Miami-based taqueria beloved by celebrities such as David Beckham, Barack Obama, and Will Smith. Of the 14 available retail units, 12 have now been leased, representing 77% of the total retail area. The site also features 258 premium residences across six towers, offering panoramic views of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and the London Eye.
A Gail's spokesperson said: "GAIL's is excited to confirm it is opening a new bakery in St James's Park in July. The opening will bring GAIL's craft baking to this central London location, creating several new baking, barista and management jobs. Through our Neighbourly Partnership we will also be donating surplus food to local charities as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities that we serve and help to improve access to quality food and drink."
Alex Michelin, co-founder and CEO of Valouran, added: "Wherever GAIL’s open, they bring energy, a genuine sense of community and a quality that sets the tone for everything around them. They have earned a loyal following across London by never compromising on quality or craft, and their decision to open at The Broadway speaks to the exceptional destination we are creating in St James's Park. We are excited to welcome them this summer and know they will become a favourite for not only our residents but also local office workers and visitors."
Founded in the early 1990s by Gail Mejia, Gail's began as a premium wholesaler supplying London chefs and food venues. Following Tom Molnar’s arrival in 2003, the chain expanded into neighbourhood craft bakeries—opening its first on Hampstead High Street in 2005—and now boasts over 185 locations across the UK, including Cambridge, Oxford and Manchester. The brand remains true to its core offering of handmade bread, seasonal pastries and speciality coffee.
