A young British man, described as a Liverpool FC fan, has been killed in a hit-and-run incident in Tenerife that Spanish authorities believe may have been a deliberate act.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The victim, identified only by his first name, Harry, was cycling on the TF-652 road between Las Chafiras and the fishing village of Las Galletas. The collision occurred on the evening of December 1, with the alarm raised around 8pm in the southern municipality of Arona.
Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, the man was pronounced dead there. Initial investigations by local police from Arona Town Hall have now been taken over by Spain's Civil Guard, the country's national gendarmerie.
Investigation Points Towards Foul Play
According to local reports, including from newspaper El Dia, officers quickly reached a disturbing preliminary conclusion. The hit-and-run showed signs of being intentional, with early inquiries suggesting the cyclist was not struck by accident.
The Civil Guard is now actively investigating whether the British national was murdered. As of now, no arrests have been made and the suspect driver remains at large.
Tributes to the Victim
A poignant makeshift shrine has appeared near the spot where the man died. It features flowers, candles, and a photograph of the victim, whose full name and exact age have not yet been officially released.
A Liverpool football shirt has been pinned to a palm tree at the site, alongside bouquets. One heartfelt message left in English read: ‘I love you forever wee bro.’
While it is believed the victim lived on the Spanish island, this detail has not been confirmed by officials. The investigation into this shocking and tragic event continues.
