Over the past five weeks, a group of local teenagers have been immersed in a hands-on pizza-making and hospitality course. This transformative initiative is a partnership between the iconic bakery and the Haringey Youth Justice Service. Across ten intensive sessions, the young participants didn't just learn to stretch dough and chop toppings; they mastered the core pillars of professional hospitality.
The curriculum covered essential skills including food preparation, strict health and safety protocols, effective communication, seamless teamwork, and vital customer service. This holistic approach ensured they gained practical, employable knowledge that forms the bedrock of a career in the industry.
Proving the Concept: From Training to Sustained Employment
The programme culminated in a celebratory event where the cohort proudly showcased their newfound abilities to families, staff, youth justice partners, and representatives from nearby restaurants. The success of this model is backed by impressive results. Of the eleven young people who completed the previous cohort, six moved into further training or secured paid roles at Dusty Knuckle itself. Every single graduate left the programme more motivated, confident, and focused.
