West Ham reject pressure to sell Fernandes as Man Utd, Arsenal circle

West Ham shareholder Daniel Kretinsky has made it clear that the club is under no financial pressure to sell players, as Manchester United and Arsenal pursue midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal international, who joined West Ham from Southampton last summer, impressed despite the Hammers' relegation to the Championship.

West Ham's Stance on Fernandes

Kretinsky, who is set to become West Ham's largest shareholder, emphasized the club's strategy to secure immediate promotion back to the Premier League. "We don't need to sell the players for financial reasons," he told The Times. "Key players are waiting for us. They want to see there is a real chance of keeping the squad together. Promotion is our only goal."

West Ham has reportedly set an asking price of £80 million for Fernandes, with no intention of selling on the cheap despite the costly relegation.

Manchester United's Interest

Manchester United, now managed by Michael Carrick, are prioritizing midfield reinforcements following Casemiro's departure and Manuel Ugarte's potential exit. They have already held talks with West Ham over Fernandes, and club captain Bruno Fernandes is said to have approved the move. Former United striker Michael Owen backed the pursuit, calling Fernandes "a very good pick" and highlighting his age and potential partnership with Kobbie Mainoo.

Arsenal and Real Madrid in the Race

Arsenal, the Premier League champions, are also monitoring Fernandes as they look to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad. Real Madrid, now managed by Jose Mourinho, have also shown interest, adding further competition for the 21-year-old.

With West Ham determined to keep their key players, the transfer saga is set to continue as the summer window progresses.
