Shannon Elizabeth, known for her role in the 1999 comedy American Pie, has revealed she earned $1 million (£740,000) on the subscription platform OnlyFans in just nine days. The 52-year-old actress launched her account in April and told Variety that the rapid financial success was unexpected.
“I crossed $1 million in nine days,” Elizabeth said. “It was really surprising, and I was honored that my fans came out and supported me. I had no idea what to expect, and the response has been really amazing. I’m chatting with people all the time and it’s been a lot of fun.”
Financial turnaround after a decade of savings
The windfall came at a crucial time for Elizabeth, who admitted she had been living largely off her savings for the past decade. After stepping back from acting to focus on animal activism, she said she was discussing how to “restart” her life with her manager and ex-husband Joseph D. Reitman when he suggested OnlyFans.
“I wasn’t sure and didn’t know much about it, and we looked into it, and I thought, ‘Yeah, why not?’” she recalled. The income has given her the freedom to be more selective about acting roles, choosing projects based on interest rather than financial need.
“For the last ten years I’ve been living off of my savings for the most part because I haven’t been as focused on work,” she explained. “To be able to get myself back to the point where I’m not struggling and am able to choose projects because I like them and not because I need the money — it’s definitely giving me more freedom to do that.”
Content without nudity and future boundaries
Despite OnlyFans being widely associated with explicit content, Elizabeth’s page currently contains no nudity. She views the platform as a way for celebrities to connect directly with fans, noting that a growing number of actors and musicians have joined. “It doesn’t have to be only for adult entertainment,” she said. “It can be whatever you want it to be.”
She hasn’t ruled out pushing boundaries in the future, admitting she’s still discovering her limits. “I’ve got to be a little bit mysterious,” she teased. “I do all kinds of content, but I don’t even know what my boundaries will be. I’m still exploring it and as I become more comfortable with it, I’m going to push those boundaries.”
Supporting animal rescue and a full-circle moment
Part of the earnings is funding Elizabeth’s animal charity work. She founded Animal Avengers in Los Angeles in 2001, later expanding to wildlife conservation and relocating to South Africa in 2016. The organisation supports anti-poaching projects and cares for a blind black rhino named Manute, with plans for a wildlife hospital and rehabilitation centre near Cape Town.
Elizabeth said a significant portion of her OnlyFans income goes towards covering charity costs, ensuring that direct donations to Animal Avengers reach animals in the field. The success also marks a full-circle moment for the actress, who was an early adopter of celebrity websites. After American Pie, she launched her own site at a time when such platforms were uncommon and often linked to adult entertainers. When she tried a live chat, so many fans logged on that the servers crashed.
“I think I was one of the first actors to have one,” she recalled. More than 25 years later, her fans have followed her to the next platform, and this time the online surge comes with a seven-figure payday.
